Barron County Library Service Board Meeting
July 14, 2005 – Barron County Courthouse Room 102
Present: George Strom, Nicole Greschner, Harold Thorson, Diane Fjelstad, Linda Thompson arrived at 9:30 (Board members) Lori Bock, Linda Hustad, Karen Anderson (BCLS-staff) Diane Ostness-CMPL, Nancy Dhatt-BAPL, Carla Powers-RLPL, Mary Shearer-CAPL, Adam Zens-TLPL
Absent: Milan Brecka, Bev Haverly
The meeting was called to order at 9:07 AM by President Diane Fjelstad. The agenda was approved.
Bev Haverly will be replacing Kathy Laffin on the county library board.
The board approved the minutes of the June meeting following a motion by George, 2nd by Harold.
The bills were reviewed. The budget % by month was reviewed & the mistakes will be corrected for next month.
County library plan: The county board approved the county library plan without the$40,000.00 on June 20, 2005.
Planning committee report: Chetek is going to join the MORE system late 2006 if funding is approved. Jeff French presented a spread sheet on the cost of joining the MORE system & upgrading to HORIZON. The handout will be adjusted on page 2 to have correct figures. Need to know cost of licenses and how many each library has. We will talk to Department of Public Instruction about time line for a state-wide system. The four remaining Barron County BCLIC libraries (Barron, Cameron, Cumberland, Turtle Lake ) will be at the sub-committee meeting. The Polk County Library director and board chair are willing to come and talk to the board at any time.
Library survey: Cumberland and Chetek have done a survey. See attached sheet. Turtle Lake just approved doing one. Nicole appreciated the work the librarians did on the survey.
Linda Thompson arrived at 9:30.
Jail book project: 10 people recorded stories. The board discussed an LSTA grant or fund raising for books and toys for the family room. We will check with jail personnel about needs.
Spring book sale: The sale was held June 9th and 10th. We took in $330.00.
Louie’s fundraiser: The fundraiser at Louie’s will be held on July 15th and 16th.
Reports: Staff report was distributed. See attached sheet. IFLS report: Nothing to report. Linda Hustad is finishing up barcoding at Rice Lake today. On October 17th Rice Lake will be online with MORE.
Next agenda & announcements: Planning committee meeting August 2 at 9:00 AM. Next county library board meeting will be August 4, 2005 at the courthouse Room 110 at 9:00 AM. The Chetek library will use the BCLIC system through 2006.
