One day a dog named Buddy was afraid to walk on the grass. On Tuesday his friend Peter and Tom came to play. Peter was a soft little dog. Tom was a big yellow lab. One day, after Peter's nap, he went over to Tom's house. Tom and Peter said, " Let's go to Buddy's house and see if he wants to play. " So they walked down the block to Allen Street to Buddy's house. Buddy was lying on the porch on his purple, blue and green rug. He was chewing on his favorite chew toy.
" Hi Buddy, " said Tom and Peter.
" Hi, " replied Buddy.
" Want to play ball? " said Peter. " Tom got a new ball. "
" What's wrong? " asked Tom.
" I don't want to walk on the grass. I am afraid I will hurt my feet, " Buddy said.
" Well, I think we can solve your problem, " said Tom. " Let's try to take some bedsprings from the junkyard. "
So, since Buddy was afraid to walk on the grass, Tom and Peter said they would go. So Buddy waited and played with his chew toy. The two boys returned with two springs from the junkyard. They tried to jump across the yard, and they tried to throw the ball. When he tried to catch it, he fell, but bounced back too hard and scratched his knee. So the next day, Peter went to the junkyard and found some shoes and brought them to Buddy for a present.
The next day Buddy, Peter, and Tom played on the grass and they all were wearing new shoes playing with the new ball.
