By Brianna A witch named Leanna Dorkans ruled the dragons. She had dark blond, wavy hair, blue-green eyes, and was of average height. Leanna loved animals, especially cats and horses. She had a passion for music and drawing. Her favorite color was any shade of blue. She named her cat Moona, because she had a white half circle underneath her neck, which spread, across her midnight black chest. She also had a brown horse, which as a foal had become very ill, but recovered to full strength and was called Miracle. The Land of the Dragons was in a beautiful valley. Surrounding the palace where Leanna lived and the crystal was kept, were many hiding places for dragons and also many traps. There was a quiet, but large waterfall and a lake with many shady spots under willow trees. Beyond the palace one could see a meadow and a wonderful garden. On the edge of the valley there was a village. It was a happy village with a market, a park, a town square, a shoe shop, a dressmaker's shop and a river running right next to it. Everyday things went on as usual. Leanna and the village people awoke, dressed, ate breakfast and went to work. Leanna mixed potions and checked over dragons. She worked on spells and had lunch. After her work was finished, she relaxed by taking a walk in the garden, through the small meadow, and made her way through the forest to the waterfall. A book in hand, Leanna calmly waited for Atlanta, Unicorn of the Moon, to visit her. Atlanta was pure white, with a glow of violet radiance around her. After visiting with Atlanta, Leanna went back to the palace, had dinner, read her spell book and went to bed. One day everything changed. It started off like any other day. Leanna was in her library looking for a book on dragon taming potions for her new additions of dragons. She located it in a book with a handsome green cover. Suddenly, one of her dragon sentries came bustling in saying, " The palace is being attacked!" " Get the dragons into position, Cordonel," she said quickly to her sentry. Cordonel was a scarlet red color with a gold frill. Leanna went to her room and grabbed her wand and stationed herself in a window at the front of the palace. Miracle went streaking into the castle and Moona curled up on the rug underneath Leanna's Victorian chair for shelter. Leanna saw the problem. The Dark One, named Selocofox, had sent his ravens. They were sabotaging the palace. That must mean Selocofox is in the castle somewhere, Leana thought. She raced to the chamber where the crystal was kept with Moona on her tail. When Leanna reached the chamber, there was Selocofox reaching for the crystal. Oh no! She thought. Anyone bad who touched the crystal destroyed its power! " No!!" she cried. The Dark One whipped his fox-like face around, contorted with rage and annoyance. Leanna had not finished one word before the Dark One took out his wand and muttered, " Meet your last, Leana." There was a blast, and Leana and Moona were thrown backward with the power of the spell and everything went black. " You're mine now." the Dark One said. Leanna regained consciousness sometime later with Moona and Miracle stirring beside her. Her wand was nowhere to be seen. She noticed she was sitting in her bedroom in the tallest tower. Leanna tried to open the oak door, but found it locked. Miracle was awake, so with her help, she tied her spare rope that was underneath her bed to the door handle and pulled. The lock broke and the door stood ajar. She ran as fast and as quietly as she could. " Thank goodness for carpet," she muttered. Moona, Miracle and Leanna checked every room. " You cannot do this, Selocofox." she said when she found him in the main room of the basement. " No matter how hard you try, you can't!" " Who says?" he replied. " I do!" said Leanna. " You and what army?" " My friends and I," said Leanna, in the bravest voice she could muster. " Challenging a duel, are we? Well, why not?" said Selocofox. He waved his wand and everything was cleared from the room, leaving the outside edge of the room deep with lava. Leanna saw her wand flying toward her as her hand automatically caught it. " Now let us begin," said Selocofox. Leanna cast a spell and Selocofox was flung against the floor. He called out an incantation and Leanna's wand flew out of her hand. He was about to do something else, but Moona had flung herself on his face so he could not see. Leanna retrieved her wand and Moona jumped away. Leanna cast a spell that made Selocofox be thrown into the air and smashed onto the floor. He cast a spell, but Leanna blocked it. He cast another and this time, Leanna wasn't ready. She fell to the ground. As quickly as she cast a spell, Selocofox blocked it and cast one of his own. It hit Leanna like a thousand nails. She was growing weaker and she knew it. Miracle saw what was happening and rushed forward kicking Selocofox as hard as she could toward the magma, but he did not fall into it. He was dazed, but was not harmed. Selocofox cast a spell to hurt Leanna, but she blocked it. Laughingly she replied, " Is that the best you can do?" The next spell hit her squarely in the chest, rolling her close to the lava. This is it, she thought, I've failed. Out of the blue, Atlanta came and knocked Selocofox with such force he fell into the magma and died as he sank in the hot lava. " The crystal is in the den," Atlanta said as they moved down the hall. Leanna took the crystal and felt the warmth spread to her toes. She knew everything was right again. From that time forward, everyone lived happily ever after.
