The Fish

One day, my dad and I were at Bill's Bait Shop buying worms and minnows. We were getting ready for our big fishing weekend on Long Lake. My dad was very excited about this, but me, well that's another story. He thought this was going to be a good bonding time for us, and I was preparing myself for a boring weekend.

After we left the bait shop, we drove to our cabin. When we got there, we got life jackets and fishing poles, and we were ready to go down to the lake. When we got down there, my dad untied the boat, loaded up our gear, and we were ready to go.

One hour had passed and we hadn't caught anything. So we decided to head back to the cabin. When we got there, it was already six o'clock, time to eat dinner. Since we didn't have any fish to cook, we had to eat chicken that we had brought from home. After we were done eating, we watched a movie and went to bed.

When we woke up the next morning we ate breakfast, and then went down to the lake. We got our life jackets, fishing poles, and bait. We loaded up the boat and drove off.

When we started fishing it was only 8:30 a.m., too early! That day we had a little better luck. My dad had caught six pan fish and a northern, and I caught two walleye. Then all of a sudden, we saw this humongous fish jump out of the water. My dad started up the motor, and sped over to it. We could not believe what we had seen. This was the biggest catfish ever! It was 8 feet long and 5 feet wide.

Our nets were not big enough, so we tied a rope around him, and dragged him back to the cabin. We called the taxidermist right away. He said we could bring the fish in tomorrow, and we did. Now it is mounted on the wall in our basement.

This weekend actually turned out to be pretty fun and exciting! I can't wait till our next fishing trip!
