Chapter 1
Once Upon a Time There Was a Serial Killer
" Kielwasser auf schlafrigen Kopf,'' hat Frau Neenere. Wissen sie, wie Deutsch zu sprechen? Ich werde Englisch von auf jetzt sprechen. " We must go to Berlin today to hear Heil Hitler speak.'' " How can you listen to that junk?" wondered Lucy-Lou with sarcasm. The year is 1938. The main character here is Lucy-Lou Thozime. She is American, but currently living in Germany. For when she was but four years old she was out for adoption. The Neenere family adopted her one year later. The Neenere family consisted of Herr Neenere, Frau Neenere, and Simon Neenere. Don't forget little Lucy-Lou. For the past five weeks she has been going to Berlin almost every other day to hear Humbug Hitler-as she called him-speak. " Forget about including me in that bedtime story! He is such a con artist," protested Lucy-Lou. " He was supposed to be in prison for life anyway…." " Which was a huge mistake!" interrupted Frau Neenere. " It showed that our form of government was aging. I used to think that dictatorships were not just, but in this case I guess that it can be for the good." When they were all about to leave, Lucy-Lou ran upstairs and hid underneath her favorite floorboard in the attic. She hid there until it was seven of the clock in the afternoon. That night… Lucy-Lou was sitting on her bed packing most essential items in two medium sized suitcases. " Hitler. Hmm! Thinks he can brainwash me. Hmm! Think again Buster!" muttered Lucy-Lou. She crept toward the front door. Opened it, and tiptoed out on to the front steps. Lucy-Lou looked at her watch, jumped at the sight of the time, and dashed down the street in horror of missing her train. When she saw the conductor blow his whistle-the all clear signal-and the train slowly begin to move, she ran at hypersonic speeds only to dive into the door while the conductor was about to close it. People starred at her like she was some kind of lunatic. I am a lunatic thought Lucy-Lou. She stood up, vainly fixed her hair, and tried to act normal as she walked to her seat. It didn't work. People starred as if their life depended on it. When Lucy-Lou got on her next train, she was relieved that nobody was on her previous train. Two hours later, the conductor cried, " All off! Last station!" Lucy-Lou awoke from her sleep, startled by the conductor's voice, uncontrollably stood up, and hit her head hard on the cargo rack. BANG! Once again people starred at her. Lucy-Lou rushed off the platform of the station to get to her foster home. She was so embarrassed by her clumsiness on the trains. When she got to the address, she nearly fainted at the sight of the house. It was huge! She rang the doorbell. Instead of the normal bzzzzt, out came an enormous DING DANG DOO DUNG! A beautifully dressed lady came to the door. " Hello! My name is Candice Smythe," said the lady in a comforting tone. " You must be Lucy-Lou. Come in and I will show you around." Lucy-Lou came inside and gawked at the pictures and paintings. An older woman came aside Lucy-Lou as she removed her coat and shoes. " This is Misses Victoria Smythe, the Master's wife," introduced Candice. " You look tired darling," soothed Misses Smythe. " You should go upstairs and rest. Miss Donnelley the maid will show you to your room." There were so many beautiful things about Lucy-Lou's room. The room was pink with a king sized bed in the center. It had four tall and thin windows that were rounded at the top. On the rounded tops were fancy pink-laced curtains. A gold trimming ran around the room on the top and bottom. This is going to be good, thought Lucy-Lou. Still tired, Lucy-Lou curled up in her bed, and fell asleep.
Chapter 2
The Black-Out
The next morning, Lucy-Lou Thozime had to think about work. The Windows had to be covered with tarred cloth. Not a chink of light could show or the Nazis would bomb their neighborhood. She started making tarred cloth for the windows. This is going to take all day, thought Lucy-Lou. The tar had to be rubbed on the cloth in many layers, which would take an extremely long time. Then it had to in someway cover the windows. It was around 12:30 when she got finished with tarring the cloth. She then started to cover the windows in her room. Lucy-Lou knew she had to work quickly. The inspector was going to visit tomorrow. She worked all afternoon on the windows. Lucy-Lou got done with fourteen windows that day. She was proud of herself after she got done with three windows, for it was very hard work. It was 5:00. Everyone ate dinner and then danced to the radio music in the parlor. Lucy-Lou sat blushing at her doll. It had come a ways and now was much tattered. Some of the hair had fallen out leaving a small bald spot. Her dress had umpteen tears all over, looked as if it had never been washed, while her cheek had a large dent in it. She decided not to dance so she went upstairs to bed. The next morning Lucy-Lou went straight to work on the windows. She still had many to cover. There was barely any breakfast today too, which didn't help morale. They now had to ration foods throughout the country. The Nazis were blocking the food freighters that went in between Europe and Great Britain. The whole country was running out of food. So to make matters worse, Lucy-Lou did not have much energy to burn. She was quite tired after one window. She had not a clue how she got all the windows finished, but she did. When the inspector came to the Smythe household, she was delighted. She was concerned however when she saw Lucy-Lou. Let's just say she was a bit beautifully challenged. Behind all that hair she saw a sad face. " It'll be alright," the Inspector soothed. Lucy-Lou was sure it was not going to be all right. The war would last a long time. Nobody would be fine. Many would die. This is war.
Chapter 3
A Taste of Horror
The year was now 1940. The Nazis had been raiding Great Britain through airplanes. Siren systems had been placed in cities all over Great Britain to warn people of the Nazis. This had been going on for a while. I must give you an example so you can feel their pain. This was the first time that the sirens went off, so it may seem a bit out of order, just so you know. Everybody is in a deep sleep upstairs because sleep is hard to find, when… OOOOOOOOrrrrrrrr. OOOOOOOOrrrrrrrr. The sirens screech a warning for an unwanted event. The family dashed down the stairs to the shelter. " Wait!" shouted Lucy-Lou. " The servants don't have a siren in their wing! They don't know about the Nazis!" At that thought Lucy-Lou ran to the complete other side to warn the servants. She got all of them up and they ran to the shelter. Lucy-Lou slipped on a rolling pin passing by the kitchen. The sirens stalled. She got up and dashed outside. " Open up! It's me! Lucy-Lou!" She pounded and pounded on the door to the Anderson Shelter. Finally Candice opened the door and slammed it shut with Lucy-Lou inside. With that you can tell it needs major work. These times continued for months. Sometimes warnings would get up to 17 times a day. One day it was different. That day was the same to everyone, but to Lucy-Lou's new family it was like no other. It started out normal, 3 warnings total in the morning. Then fourth warning in the afternoon. It was different. It seemed like just a warning, everyone went inside the shelter (they now had a plan to get everyone in on time) for safety. Then, KABLOOOMMMM!! The loudest noise came from outside. It was the loudest noise Lucy-Lou had ever heard in her life. The master's wife cried out in horror. There she lay, helplessly sobbing in her spouse's lap. All at once Lucy-Lou realized. This was her house. A bomb had hit her house. Now she, too, was sobbing. When they came out after the " all clear" alarm, the people forgot to specify their block. " Get out here, Miss. You too Guy." Lucy-Lou was frozen, petrified, speechless, and so much more! Lucy-Lou fainted. In comes the master's wife. Seeing Lucy-Lou looking … well … dead … she screamed. Now I mean SCREAM screamed! At this caused commotion between her and the man. When the master's wife saw the uniform he wore on himself she again SCREAM screamed. He was a Nazi. A member of the Nazi party. " You better shut up you mouthy piece of junk!" threatened the Nazi. " You let her go! Yes him too!" objected the master's wife as if what the Nazi was doing was a matter of sanity (well it was very insane if you think about it). Seeing a Nazi heave her Jewish neighbor inside a truck marked: Cons. Camp 021 was too much for the master's wife. Too much. " No! You will not leave with them! No!" she cried and wept and ran to hug them once more … BANG! The master's wife fell to the ground. Dead. " Serves ya right you old lady!" yelled the Nazi in disgust. And there she lay.
Chapter 4
Refugee in Chislehurst
The family has no shelter. It took weeks before they got to this shelter. Finally they stumbled upon a refugee camp. Chislehurst Caves was in Chislehurst. It was the biggest
refugee camp of all Great Britain because the people felt safest underground. In Chislehurst there were hospitals, markets, houses, and much more. Even though it doesn't sound so bad,
it was horrifying. Many people died because the hospitals were not very good. Disease was everywhere. Lucy-Lou was hating it from the day she stepped foot inside the cave. She knew something bad
was going to happen. It always did. The crowd gasped. " Oh boy," said Lucy-Lou in a "not this" type of tone. His left arm was bloody. " Nazi," he mumbled with all his breath.
" Killed." He struggled to breathe. He was one of the servants at Luch-Lou's old house that was blown up. The rest of the servants are dead too then. They believe in strength in numbers. " Wait!" one person shouted. " They might have followed him!" Lucy-Lou wondered if he might be right. He
was right. Luch-Lou had to gather the family. The Nazis were to come any minute. " Candice!" screeched Lucy-Lou. Candice came running. BANG! " t's the Nazis! Candice, it's the Nazis! Come with me, c'mon!" The two girls ran for the secret/Emergency passageway.
Candice screeched, " Do you think this situation qualifies for the p..." " es!" interrupted Lucy-Lou. " Very much so!" They ran
through the crowd to the finish line. " Go!" screamed Lucy-Lou. " Just go!" Candice ran with all
her might with Lucy-Lou right behind her. When they got to the top, they were so exhausted and hungry. The year is 1945. They got out of Chislehurst in 1943. For two years they have been living in an old house back at their old town. Until one day they were hopeless,
when they turned on the radio. " Shock in Nazi Germany!" said the perky news reporter. " World War Two officially ends with the suicide of Adolf Hitler, dicta..." Candice turned off the radio. They said nothing for the rest of the day. Too many feelings were lost in the
times of war. When war ends the feelings are not there to be used, so we start new. This day is the new day to start new. The next day they celebrated with all their hearts. Much damage has been done to our environment, but it is not possible to wreak our hope. This is where you close the book.
