By Colten On the twenty-first day of school, Mrs. Knepper said, "I am going to assign you all a project! " That very second my bright, blue eyes lit up with excitement. After that, I wrote on my shirt to remind myself of the project. (I am very forgetful.) The teacher caught me writing on my shirt, so she scolded me. Then she assigned me to do a project about Indians! The project was due on September 20th. That meant only had three days. I had about 15 Sioux Indian books to study with. That Friday night, I was looking for some paper and I found another Indian book. It was about 80-years-old. When I was looking through the book, I saw a mysterious page. The page smelled a little odd. It smelled like wild rice and birch bark. As I looked at that smelly page, suddenly, I saw people walking around! The people were Indians! There were Indian camps and everything. This time my bright, blue eyes lit up with fright. I was so scared, I threw the leathery brown book down and ran to my mom and dad. They thought I was lying to them. Later, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, so I went to look at the book again. When I did, a tan hand pulled me into the book! I was so scared I fainted! When I woke up the Indian said, "We come in peace! " I was so relieved when he said that. All of the Indians were wearing buckskin clothes and brown, leather moccasins. The Indians gave me my own set of pretty clothes to wear, so I put them on. They were comfortable compared to the twenty-first century clothes. I was continuously thinking about my project. Luckily, the Indians taught me how to write on wood. Whenever I had spare time, I would work on my project. When it was time to eat, I could smell the food. I could also feel the hot fire, and over the fire was a roasting deer. That's what we had for supper. After we ate, the Indians and I walked out of the camp. We came across a portal. It looked like a glowing, red, floating circle. The Indians covered it with birch bark and closed it up immediately. It was like they didn't want me to see the portal. The Indians made me go back to camp. There were only two days before my project was due. I always got straight A's, and I wasn't about to let Mrs. Knepper fail me. I wrote down all about the adventures I was having and how the Indians lived. I even wrote about sleeping in the camp, as I listened to the wolves howling and the bears growling from my teepee. When I woke up, I realized that I only had one day left to finish my project but I finally finished it when all of the sudden, a messenger rode into camp on his horse. The messenger had a note that said the French were coming. I got scared because I knew from Mrs. Knepper's history class that the Sioux Indians and the French were enemies. So, I packed up my stuff, getting ready to leave but the Indians wanted me to stay because they said I would make a good Indian. I told the Indians that I wanted to go back to my time so I went to the portal. When I got to the portal, the French were already attacking the camp. It was the French versus the Indians! I dove into the portal but I got shot in the leg! I was back in my world. But, my leg hurt terribly. I half limped, half ran to school. When I got to school, I ran in the school doors and then I dove into my classroom. Everyone screamed when I came tumbling in. Thank goodness I was right on time. I limped to put my project on the display table. Everyone was in awe when they saw my cool Indian clothes. I told everyone about my adventures and how I got shot in the leg. When I tried to show everyone my shot leg, I couldn't find the bullet hole. I concluded that when I came back to my world, my injury disappeared and I only thought it hurt. Mrs. Knepper gave me an A++ on the project. I was so happy. She was so impressed that she put me on television! The television staff was also so impressed by my presentation that they made me a T.V. star. I was very thankful to the Indians for helping me with my project. I decided to give my 80-year-old mystical Indian book to a museum. But, before I gave my mystical book to the museum, I wanted to bring the Indians into the present. I opened the book and told the Indians to jump into the portal in order to join me. I decided to leave the French in the book so they wouldn't start a fight. As the Indians prepared to jump, I could see the French coming back to the Indian camp. This time all the French surrendered! I decided to let the French join the Indians with me in the present. Scientists learned so much from my Indian friends. Modern man knows so much more now about Indians and their culture. I can't wait until I start my new T.V. series. I want to call it "A Stitch In Time. " I will be the star of the show and the Indians will be my co-stars. The show will be about when I went back into the past and met the Indians. My first episode will feature the French attack upon the Sioux Indians. I am sure we'll win more than a couple of Emmy awards.
