A Fireside Hour discussion group was begun in November, 1936. Seven girls, under W.P.A. worked doing mending, cleaning, etc.

In November, 1936, Miss Crandell presented a recommendation to the Rusk County Board of Supervisors for money to set up a book service for rural patrons. The members of the Board appropriated $2,000.00 to establish a county library system giving free library service to every adult and child in Rusk County.

In Jan. 1937, free county-wide library service was begun, and the name of the library was changed to the CITY AND COUNTY LIBRARY.

The walls and ceilings of the adult room were repainted and new lighting fixtures installed.

Notes: The county appropriation for 1938 was cut to $1,000.00 by the county board. In spite of the curtailment of funds, the library was called on to meet greater demands for county service than ever. Miss O'Connor gave a talk before the county board in November, 1938, giving them the results of a survey of the twelve counties in the northwestern district and showing the increased demand for service in Rusk County. The County Board then voted to increase the appropriation to $1,500.00 for the next year.

Notes: County circulation increased 2,589 over the previous year and county borrowers increased to 1,035. The woodwork on the outside of the library building was given a coat of white paint. A new desk chair and a new clock were purchased for the adult room. A book mending project was conducted by the N.Y.A.
